Plant Tour

In October 1995, Ford and its joint venture partner, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), received government approval to establish a joint venture company, Mahindra Ford India Ltd (MFIL.) MFIL assembled and distributed Ford Escorts in India. Just ten months after approval, the first Ford Escort rolled off the line at an existing M&M facility in Nashik. In March of 1998, Ford had the majority stake and the company was renamed Ford India. In 1999, Ford India inaugurated the Rs. 1700 crore integrated manufacturing plant at Maraimalai Nagar, 45 kms. from Chennai where all Ford cars spring to life.

The plant, equipped with advanced manufacturing technology from Ford, covers 350 acres, provides employment to about 2,000 people directly and many more thousands indirectly and has a capacity to manufacture upto 100,000 vehicles per annum. Ford is a 6-Sigma company. Every step of every process is planned to perfection.
